Located on the left bank of the Garonne River, 25 miles away from Bordeaux, come and find the wonderland of Sauternes.
As you travel along, you will discover an elaborate architecture, while tasting the only Bordeaux white wines classified in 1855, the “golden ones”. Emperor Napoleon the Third commanded that classification for a presentation at the Paris World Fair in 1857.
In 1846, a Marquis gone for hunting in Russia came back far too late to order the grape harvest. The grapes, that were thought to be rotting, gave the best white wine that’s ever been expected. Historic fact or myth, who knows?...
