Chateau Cos d’Estournel, located in the Saint-Estephe area, is a Deuxieme Grand Cru - Second Growth*.
Built in 1811 by Louis-Gaspard d’Estournel, close to the village Cos (Cos means stonehill in Gascon), the Chateau exports a tremendous amount of wine to India right from the beginning, obtaining the name of Maharadjah. Chinese pagodas and Zanzibar gate have been integrated in the architecture since 1830 as a sign of gratitude.
Neighbour of Chateau Lafite-Rothschild, Cos d’Estournel produces a great wine akin to the most prestigious Bordeaux wine of the Medoc.
Also, Chateau Cos d’Estournel produces a second wine named Les Pagodes de Cos.
* Historic Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855.
