Chateau Margaux, located in the Margaux area, is a Premier Grand Cru Classe - First Growth*, as long as Chateau Latour, Chateau Lafite Rothschild, Chateau Mouton Rothschild and Chateau Haut-Brion.
The first chateau traces appeared during the XII^th century, mentioned as a stronghold known under the name of Chateau de la Mothe Margaux. At the turn of the XVIII^th century, the marquis de la Colonilla decided to demolish the existing castle and to build the residence that we admire nowadays.
The Great Wine of Chateau Margaux is world widely one of the most prestigious & famous. The mythical vintage years are : 1928, 1937, 1945, 1961, 1982, 1983, 1985, 1989, 1990, 1996, 2000 and 2005.
Also, Chateau Margaux produces a second wine named Pavillon Rouge. Also produced is a white wine called Pavillon Blanc.
