Chateau Calon-Segur, located in the Saint-Estephe area, is a Troisieme Grand Cru Classe - Third Growth*.
Calon comes from the name of a small craft used during the Middle-Age to carry the wood from on bank of the Gironde river to the other. The Marquis de Segur buy the estate at the XVIIIth century and add his name to Calon.
The wine from Calon-Segur is often considered as one of the strongest and most powerful wine of Saint-Estephe appellation.
Also, Chateau Calon-Segur produces a second wine named Marquis de Segur and a Cru Bourgeois named Capbern Gasqueton.
