The history of Arcachon basin is quite totally the one of the Buch Land. The first traces of population appeared back to the VIIIe century BC. In "occitan gascon" vernacular language, "la Laca d’Arcaishon" is a salted water expanse located in the Landes de Gascogne in the département of Gironde, between the towns of La Teste-de-Buch in the south, Lège-Cap-Ferret in the north, and the Atlantic ocean in the west. The Silver Coast, that stretches from the Adour river to the Gironde estuary is an offshore bar constitued by a dune of 200 km, only disrupted by the basin of Arcachon. Widely opened on the Atlantic ocean via channels, with the so famous Dune of Pyla at its entrance, the basin is a real inner sea of 155 km² at high tide and 40 km² at low tide. You may discover there the Bird Island and its huts buillt on stilts, the banc d’Arguin, its heavenly sceneries strewn with oyster beds, among others wonders...
