Pomerol Appellation produces only red wines. If all grape varieties may be used here (cabernet-sauvignon, cabernet-franc, merlot, etc...), the Merlot predominates largely, representing 100% of the vineyards in some of the estates, like Le Pin.
Pomerol wines may be sturdiest than the others Bordeaux wines. Nowhere else such smooth wines can be found, as we use to say: "Pomerol wines" are "lady wines". Maturity is reached after 15 years spent in cellar.
