Medoc

Come and admire the lowlands of the Médoc (meaning the ‘middle land’ for it
is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the West and the Gironde estuary to
the East), which shares much resemblance with the Dutch polders.

In this unique geological set-up, where one finds a predominant graves soil
(a blend of sand and gravel), a particular knowledge has been passed on from
one generation to the next, in order to produce the most famous red wines in
the world.

Along the châteaux route, you will come across such pearls as Château
Margaux
, Mouton Rothschild, and all the prestigious Bordeaux grands
crus classés (1855 classification), as well as many crus bourgeois offering
the most unusual architectural styles.
